Dr. Stephen C. Meyer on the ‘God Hypothesis’ and the materialists’ increasingly fringe rationales for life and the universe
Is there scientific evidence for the existence of God? It seems so. In this episode of the Humanize podcast, Wesley interviews Stephen C. Meyer, Director of the Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture, about his new book The Return of the God Hypothesis: Three Scientific Discoveries that Reveal the Mind Behind the Universe. In their extended conversation, Stephen and Wesley discuss the intelligent design hypothesis, explore why this heterodox approach to explaining life is, contrary to its critics’ assertions, not religion masking as science. Rather the theory of ID is consistent with—and indeed, epitomizes—the scientific method. Stephen discusses the extensive scientific evidence pointing toward “a transcendent Mind” as having created the universe. He also explains the evidence for a theistic, rather than materialistic understanding of the creation of life and how and why that impacts the essential nature of humans as “moral beings.” Stephen also explains why “world views” matter, and how materialism can produce nihilism and a sense of hopelessness that afflict many today, particularly among the young.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. Evidence of God from science points us in the direction of understanding that life has profound meaning and purpose. This is an informative and hopeful conversation you will not want to miss.
